Azerbaijan is often referred to as the “Land of Fire” due to its fascinating natural gas springs, which create natural flames rising from the ground, such as at the famous “Fire Mountain” Yanar Dag. Fire also symbolizes the ancient Zoroastrian culture, which played an important role in the region.
Between Europe and Asia
Azerbaijan is located at the crossroads of Europe and Asia and its culture combines influences from both continents. The capital Baku, located on the Caspian Sea, is an impressive example of this mixture with modern architecture such as the Flame Towers and the old town, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
